Tobias Schmieg is the Vice President of Product Engineering at Form Energy, where he leads the team responsible for engineering Form’s multi-day storage product. With extensive experience in global energy storage and electric vehicle battery systems, Tobias brings a deep technical expertise and leadership background to Form Energy’s team.

Prior to joining Form Energy, Tobias served as VP of Product Development at Gotion High-Tech, one of the world’s leading battery manufacturers. He played a key role in expanding Gotion’s footprint in the U.S. and Europe, working closely with world-class clients and overseeing the design and production of advanced battery systems for automotive, commercial vehicle, and stationary storage applications. Leading a global team spanning the U.S., Europe, and Asia, Tobias worked to drive large-scale manufacturing projects and strategic partnerships, including gigafactory developments.

Tobias began his career and spent eight years at BMW, where he contributed to four generations of electric vehicle battery technology, from the pioneering i3 and i8 models to today’s latest EVs. He led the architecture definition and implementation of BMW’s sixth-generation battery systems, set to power the company’s newest electric models. His early focus on testing and validation helped push the boundaries of battery performance, doubling electric range for plug-in hybrids and securing more than 30 patents in battery pack and system design. His work encompassed battery architecture, safety, thermal management, and validation, contributing to the electrification of millions of vehicles worldwide.

Tobias holds a Master’s degree in Systems Engineering from the University of Applied Sciences Munich and a Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics from the University of Applied Sciences Esslingen.
