Ryan Brueckert leads the design of Form Energy’s iron anode production powder processing systems and is based in Eighty Four, PA, just outside of Pittsburgh.
How did you first learn about Form Energy?

A Form Energy recruiter reached out to me and painted a picture of what transitioning to a career at Form could look like and the impact that I could make. I was sold!

What made you want to work at Form Energy?

I was fascinated by Form’s iron-air battery technology and the opportunity to make a massive impact in enabling the clean energy future. Additionally, joining the company at this stage, when there is a small yet rapidly growing team, was very appealing to me.

Please outline your job duties/responsibilities at Form Energy:

I lead the design of Form’s iron anode production powder processing systems, working with equipment manufacturers, engineering firms, and our process engineers to design the best machines, systems, and layouts.

Walk us through a typical work day:

As we ramp up our manufacturing efforts, I’ve been spending part of my days walking through construction areas with contractors to ensure equipment installations go according to plan, and the other part of my days at my desk working with companies to design and specify new equipment and layouts.

What aspect of your role do you enjoy the most?

My favorite part of my job is traveling to our different equipment suppliers to perform tests, inspections, and collaborate in person to design optimal solutions for Form.

How does your position at Form Energy differ from other roles you’ve held previously?

I started my career designing powder processing machines and small systems while employed by an equipment manufacturer. Working at Form, I get to be on the flip side. I may no longer be designing every bracket and fastener, but I understand the hard work companies go through to provide us with the highest quality machines.

How would you describe your time at Form Energy in three words?

Exciting, Collaborative, and Enlightening.

Has anything surprised you about working for Form Energy?

The quality of employees we have at Form is above anywhere else. Form’s quality hiring standards and highly motivating projects have created an environment where everyone puts in serious effort and collaborates amazingly.

What about working in the energy storage industry excites you the most?

There is a huge technological gap in enabling a fully renewable energy grid. Many energy storage technologies (including our iron-air batteries) can make a giant impact in slowing climate change!

What are your hopes for the energy storage industry?

It’s my hope that all energy storage technologies trend toward more sustainable ingredient sourcing and more efficient recycling to reduce our full circle product environmental impact.

What kinds of hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

I most enjoy mountain biking on local trails, riding my motorcycle, and exploring new places.

What book did you last read?

La Belle Sauvage by Philip Pullman. I really enjoyed the His Dark Materials trilogy and so far the new The Book of Dust trilogy in the same world is super engaging!
