Form Energy’s first commercial-scale battery manufacturing facility will be located in Weirton, West Virginia at the site of the former Weirton Steel plant. The facility will ultimately employ more than 750 people when operating at full capacity. We expect to start construction of our Weirton factory in 2023 and begin manufacturing iron air battery systems for broad commercialization starting in 2024.
Our team engaged in a year-long, robust nationwide selection process for the site of our first commercial-scale battery manufacturing plant that started with identifying over 500 candidate locations across 16 states. After evaluating several promising manufacturing site locations that could effectively meet our needs, we selected a 55 acre site in Weirton in close proximity to our existing pilot manufacturing facility in Eighty Four, Pennsylvania 45 minutes from Pittsburgh. Weirton is a historic steel site with strong natural infrastructure and in a region of the country with the know-how to make great things out of iron.
